Thousand Lights Mosque

                                           

Thousand Lights Mosque (Tamil: ஆயிரம் விளக்கு மசூதி), a multi-domed mosque in Anna Salai in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, is one of the largest mosques in the country and is a revered place of worship for Muslims. It was built by Nawab Umdat-ul-Umrah in 1810.

The Thousand Lights Mosque of Chennai is a popular pilgrimage destination of the Shia community of India. Located on Anna Salai Road in Chennai, Thousand Lights Mosque is famous for its architectural splendour.

The main hall in the ground floor is meant for offering prayers by men. There is a separate prayer hall for women. There are two rooms on the second floor of the mosque, called Dargah, which is held as a sanctuary of Imam Hossein and Abolfazl-al-Abbas.

The Thousand Lights Mosque can be easily reached as it is located at the crossing of Mount Road and Peters Road within the precincts of the city of Chennai. Though the mosque was refurbished numerous times since its foundation, it still holds a prominent place among the tourist attractions of Chennai.

Madras High Court was one among the three High Courts in Pre-Independent India, the others being in Mumbai and Kolkata.  
The Madras High Court was built in 1862 in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style. 

Henry Irwin designed Madras High Court. In 1914, Madras High Court was damaged by German attacks.

Madras High Court along with the High Courts in Mumbai and Kolkata are of great significance as they were created under Queen Victoria’s charter in the 19th century. It is the second largest judicial complex in the world.
